August 30th Meet and Greet Recap
Last night, I returned to Ward 7, where the conversation focused on public safety. Many are concerned about the approach that the city has taken and want to see changes. Highlights from the conversation are below.
A: The next mayor will have to take a hard look at the MPD. We will have to look at recruitment and think about what skills we really want.— Tom Hoch (@TomHochMpls) August 30, 2017
I have read about peer-to-peer intervention for officers that other departments have adopted. I like the idea. https://t.co/PNxGZwUzzS— Tom Hoch (@TomHochMpls) August 30, 2017
A: I want our officers to focus more on serious crimes like rape, robbery and assault.— Tom Hoch (@TomHochMpls) August 30, 2017
A: My vision is collaborative. We need to talk to people & find out why they feel unsafe, then find solutions to the problems they identify.— Tom Hoch (@TomHochMpls) August 30, 2017
A: More officers is part of the solution. We need the right mix -- we need more detectives, not just more street cops.— Tom Hoch (@TomHochMpls) August 30, 2017
Tonight, I will be at Utepils Brewing in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood from 6pm to 8pm. On Sunday, I will be at the State Fair for a debate with the other candidates. If you're planning to be at the Great Minnesota Get-Together on Sunday, September 3rd, stop by! We will be on the front porch of the WCCO Radio booth.
